Crossbow arrest

A man has been arrested after police investigating the recent shooting of a kangaroo with a crossbow raided properties in Woodend and Sunbury. Sergeant David Jakobi said a Sunbury man, 34, would be charged on summons with animal cruelty and weapons offences.

 

Cyclist dies at Sunbury

A cyclist in his 50s died after a collision at Sunbury last Thursday. The Calder Freeway was closed in both directions at Vineyard Road after the crash just before 10.30am. Police believe a car and the cyclist were both travelling west when the collision happened. The driver, a Sunbury man, 63, was helping police with their investigation.

 

Woodend windows smashed

Woodend police are investigating after rocks were thrown through the windows of the Woodend Football Club social rooms, along with those of two houses in Manifold Road and Adam Close, on October 7. Two unrelated burglaries took place on the same night in High Street.

 

Police hunt purse snatcher

Police are seeking information after a man stole a purse from a teenager near a bus stop in Gap Road, Sunbury, on September 23. They said a man, possibly in his late 30s, snatched a purse and mobile phone from a girl, 15. He’s described as thin, about 170cm, with orange to blonde hair and pale skin. PM’s jobs-friendly visit

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull visited the army’s Monegeetta proving ground last week to sign a contract for the production of new light-armoured personnel carriers in Bendigo. The $1.3 billion deal to make 1100 Hawkei protected vehicles at Thales Australia’s Bendigo plant is expected to create 170 jobs.

 

Public input for Rock plans

Macedon Ranges residents can have their say on a draft plan to guide environmental and conservation works at Hanging Rock. Deputy mayor Russell Mowatt said the plan would seek to protect and balance the site’s natural assets with recreation and tourism. Submissions close October 23. Arts centre for Gisborne college

Gisborne Secondary College will receive an extra $50,000 towards a new performing arts centre, Macedon Labor MP Mary-Anne Thomas revealed last week. The money, in addition to $78,000 for general maintenance, will be added to fundraising efforts, including a sponsorship program designed by students. The centre will include a 256-seat auditorium with retractable projector screen and lighting, and a green room.
