Space for youth to grow

Movie and game nights, cooking, sports programs and workplace training are a few of the things young people will be doing at the new youth space in Riddells Creek.

The space opens at Riddells Creek Community Centre on July 19 and will offer a range of activities and events for teens between 12 and 18 years to connect with each other.

Macedon Ranges council will run its Youth Engagement Programs (YEP!) from the site. The programs are aimed at building skills, confidence and social capacity.

Kyneton and Woodend centres also run youth programs during the school holidays.

Mayor Jennifer Anderson said the new youth space was a win for young people.

“Council is committed to supporting young people in the shire through our network of safe, accessible youth spaces, so it’s fantastic to bring that to teenagers in Riddells Creek,” Cr Anderson said. “The space is a safe environment for young people to meet friends, get involved in activities and share experiences.

“Young people are involved in the programming of activities and decision-making, so it’s really up to them to shape the program based on what they want and need.”
