Koala-ty fundraiser

A wildlife charity has developed a campaign to encourage people to make small changes to their life to help protect koalas.

The Australian Koala Foundation’s (AKF) ‘30 Days, 30 Ways to Save the Koala’ social media drive will run throughout September and will include a month’s worth of ideas for ways to make positive contributions to our native koala population.

AKF chair Deborah Tabart said the annual Save the Koala Month (SKTM) also raises vital funds for koala protection.

“Without the public’s enthusiasm and support we would get nowhere,” Ms Tabart said.

“Everyone who stands up to protect Koalas and participates in STKM is a hero in our eyes and this year we want to celebrate them.”

Established in 1986, AKF has remained independent from government funding, depending only on public donation to lead its research and advocacy work.

Funds raised will go toward AKF’s Koala Habitat Atlas, an interactive map for landholders to use in order to assist them in conserving koala habitat.

AKF have also developed a ‘fundraising during COVID-19’ guide and are encouraging participants to order a donation from their website.

“We absolutely love to hear stories of support, if you have an exciting idea or creative fundraiser this September is the perfect time to run it,” Ms Tabart said.
