Sunbury Little Athletics Centre has been able to buy new gear after it bagged $3900.

The money was raised through the sale of Coles community chiller bags.

Athletics centre president Bernadette Burns said the new equipment was a huge help.

“We got new discuses, which are coloured and coded, and … new shot puts, which make it easier for the children to see where their throw goes,” she said.

“We will also be receiving a new high jump mat. We got low marking cones – the cones help the children know which lane to stay in.”

Ms Burns said the equipment had been a long time coming.

“A lot of our shot puts and discuses were worn and torn,” she said.

“The Coles grant will have a huge impact on our centre.

“The new high jump mat will be much lighter and easier to handle for our volunteers. Having modern, quality equipment will provide our athletes with a greater opportunity to achieve their personal bests each week.

“What Coles is doing is an amazing thing … especially for smaller clubs.”
