Winning end to debut season for Sunbury Futsal

It was a big milestone for the Sunbury Futsal League on Sunday, with the league hosting its first grand final day.

More than 120 children the league’s first season in four different age groups.

The season came to an end on Sunday, with the inaugural championships being crowned.

The Avengers won the under-8s, Ball Thieves won the under-10s, Dragons claimed the under-12 championship, while Futsal Freaks were the winners in the under-14s.

Best and fairest awards were also handed out.

For league co-founders Simon and Corrine Bishop the system has been a massive achievement.

They set up the league with goal to introduce futsal to the Sunbury community.

“Futsal didn’t have any presence in Sunbury prior to last year, and we could see firsthand from its popularity in nearby regions that the demand was there,” Simon Bishop said.

“The summer season we’ve just completed has been an absolute success. Sunbury Futsal now has 120 members, whose ages range from three to 14.”

Registration for the winter competition is now open with the league expanding to include social and open age competitions.
