Sunbury’s narrow opening bowls loss

Sunbury suffered a narrow defeat in the Bowls Victoria pennant division 1, section 1, on Saturday.

Sunbury fell just short at home to Flemington-Kensington in the first contest of the season, losing 74(14)-73(4).

The teams won two rinks each, with Marc Bullows proving to be Sunbury’s standout performer, winning 25-11 in the first rink.

Danny Fortune also started his campaign in promising fashion with a 20-16 win.

But Flemington-Kensington were able to turn the tide, beating Sunbury’s Mark Cowan (26-18) and Lee Wesley (21-10) to take home 14 points to Sunbury’s four.

Sunbury will face Whittlesea on its deck next week.
