Sunbury knocked out

Sunbury’s Victorian Turf Cricket Association T20 campaign came to an end on Tuesday night against Jacana.

After winning their two pool matches, the Roar faced Jacana in the first of the region knockout stage matches.

The match was a thriller, coming down to the final ball.

The Jaguars, who are the lower ranked side, won the toss and elected to bat. They managed to get to 98 before being bowled out with seven balls remaining.

Youngster Jack McGann took 3-25, while Jason McGann took 2-4 off his overs.

Brad Hunter was out without scoring in the worst possible start for the Roar.

The side steadied and seemed on track at 1-49. The wickets then started to fall, including the three in the space of two runs.

Late wickets would prove costly for the Roar with the win in sight. The Roar was bowled out for 95 on the final ball of the innings, leaving the side four runs short of victory.

Kevin Barker top scored with 27 at the top of the order.

Jacana’s opponent is yet to be decided.

West Coburg and PEGS are the other two sides in the region 3 group along with the Jaguars and the Roar. The teams were set to face each other on Tuesday night, but the game was cancelled due to the ground being wet.

Other winners to progress through to the next round on Tuesday night are Werribee Centrals, Maribyrnong Park St Marys and the Druids, with the remaining games to be played within the next week.
