Kyneton Golf is the first team through to the Central Highlands Bowls’ top division’s grand final after an upset win against Gisborne.
Gisborne entered the match the in-form team after a number of good wins late in the season, but it meant little on Saturday.
Not much separated the teams all day, with each team winning two rinks, but it was Golf that got the victory, winning 86 (14)-80 (4).
Stephen Taylor and Ricky Turner led the winning rinks for Golf, while Matthew Bacon and Sam Boslem won the rinks for Gisborne. Golf now gets the week off and will face either Gisborne or Bacchus Marsh Gold in the grand final.
Gold won through to the preliminary final with a thrilling two shot win against Kyneton. Facing each other for a second straight week, Gold was able to turn the tables after a final round loss.
Five shots was the biggest gap between the rinks in the semi-final, with Gold winning 98 (16)-96 (2). Glenn Arthur, Justin Webster and Phil Minniti led the winning rinks for Bacchus Marsh.
In division 2, Gisborne Red won through to the grand final with a big win against Diggers Rest.
Kyneton won by two shots against Macedon and will now face Diggers Rest in the preliminary final.
In division 3, Romsey will face Trentham or Macedon in the grand final.
