Diggers Rest and Woodend-Hesket both came away with one-point wins in the Riddell District Football League on Saturday.

Not much separated the Burras and Romsey all day at Bloomdale Oval.

The Redbacks, who didn’t field reserves due to a number of players out with COVID-19, led at the first two changes by seven points.

Scores were level at the final break with the match going down to the wire, with the Burras winning 14.7 (91)-14.6 (90).

Thomas Schwarzenberg, Marcus Calvaresi, Mitchell Jensen and Mitchell Day kicked two goals apiece for the Burras.

Chris Lawton was named their best.

For the Redbacks, Corey Pertzel, who was one of five players to kick two goals, was named their best.

The match was just as close at Gilbert Gordon Oval, with the Hawks sneaking home against Melton Centrals.

The Centrals were the better team in the first half, leading by 21 points at the main break.

The Hawks threw the magnets around at half time and hit the front in the third quarter, to lead by three points at the last break.

Both teams had their chances in the final quarter, with the Hawks winning 9.15 (69)-10.8 (68).

Tom Gawthorp kicked four goals for the Hawks with Marcus Stapleton named their best.

For Centrals, Jarryd Underwood, Ricky Hawkins and Dylan Clarke kicked three goals each. Samuel Apineru was named their best.

Lancefield got its first win of the season beating the Western Rams.

Both sides entered the match searching for their first win and it was the Tigers who got the jump early.

They were able to extend the lead at every break, winning 15.10 (100)-3.5 (23).

Jay Russell kicked four goals in his first game for the season, while Michael Conlan was named best on ground.

Ashley Gray kicked two of the Rams’ three goals with Ricky Cameron named their best.

Riddell suffered its first loss of the season against a strong Wallan unit.

The Bombers were held goalless in the first quarter and had just one on the board at half time.

The Magpies were able to extend the lead in the second half, winning, 15.11 (101)-7.6 (48).

Corey Grindlay kicked six goals in a best on ground performance for the Magpies.
