Work begins on $10m upgrade at Kyneton Secondary College

A $10.9 million overhaul of Kyneton Secondary College is under way.

Construction has started on the new training and innovation hub, and areas of the existing school are set to be refurbished and upgraded as part of the state government project.

Principal Ana Rees said the hub would offer “state-of-the-art training and innovation facilities”, which would allow the school to increase the number of subjects it offers.

The new space, being built by Fairbrothers Construction, will enable applied learning for STEM subjects such as science, and vocational training subjects, such as automotive.

The hub’s facilities will also be available for use by the community out of school hours.

As part of the upgrades, the year 7 and 8 learning centre, and the ‘Boomerang Wing’ – the shared learning resources centre, will be completely refurbished.

Maintenance upgrades are also on the way for the arts studio, drama and music facilities, administration area, food technology area and the year 9 and 10 learning centre.

Ms Rees said the students were looking forward to the project’s completion, which is planned for 2019.

“It’s going to be really fantastic,” Ms Rees said. “It will provide them with a really modern learning environment.”
