Walking for a cure

Macedon Ranges residents are lacing up for a Walk in the Park this weekend to support those affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Lancefield and District Parkinson’s Support Group members will be among thousands living with Parkinson’s, their families, carers, friends and supporters who will participate in Victoria’s A Walk in the Park on Sunday, August 26.

The non-competitive walk will start at Federation Square and will include two-kilometre and four-kilometre circuits.

Group leader Kate McCormack said the event was a significant outing for those involved in dealing with Parkinson’s.

“This is the major fundraiser for the organisation and the money raised is used to distribute to the established groups across Victoria,” Ms McCormack said.

“It provides access to extremely qualified people who can provide information and the latest research and back-up supports.

“Some money goes towards research and that’s the biggest thing.

“We’re hoping that this research will, at some point, bring forth a cure.”

For raising $25 or more, participants will receive a limited edition A Walk in the Park 2018 T-shirt. Whether an individual or team raises $25, $250 or $2500, every dollar raised will make a difference.
