Sunbury’s popular StreetLife festival, which attracts up to 10,000 people, has been cancelled.
The decision to cancel the popular one-day festival came after the state of emergency was extended and restrictions on gatherings in public places remained the same.
In an online statement, festival committee members said the decision to cancel the 2020 festival was a tough one.
“We know it is the right decision,” the statement read.
“We have been monitoring the situation closely for some time now, hoping for things to improve.
“We are comforted knowing our community will not be put in harm’s way from COVID-19, for that would be a burden we could not bear.
“We understand that this will come as an enormous disappointment for all stall holders, food trucks and small businesses that rely so heavily on the increased business that StreetLife attracts.”
The festival, which was scheduled for November, is a celebration of “everything local” and aimed to highlight and acknowledge the town’s businesses.
“Right now, the most important thing all of us can do is focus our attention on helping people with the new challenges we all face,” the statement read.
“Please know that we remain committed to finding other ways to showcase the amazing small businesses in our community [and] we look forward to seeing you all again at StreetLife 2021.”
