Staffer called out

A staffer for Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas has recently come under fire from a journalist for ‘blocking’ him getting photos of the minister and the Wodonga mayor.

In a post to X (formally Twitter)- which has more than 150,000 views, Border Mail news photographer Mark Jesser said it was ‘terrible behaviour’.

The video can be viewed through the link at the bottom of the story and shows Ms Thomas’ staffer moving from her position behind Ms Thomas and mayor Ron Mildren, to stand in front of the camera.

For the next about 25 seconds Mr Jesser consistently moves the camera, gaining a clearer angle of Ms Thomas and Mr Mildren but has most of the view obstructed by the staffer each time.

“[Ms] Thomas’ media minder tries to block me getting photos of the Health Minister talking to #Wodonga Mayor Ron Mildren – Terrible behaviour,” Mr Jesser said in the post.

Retired 3AW presenter Neil Mitchell commented on the video and said it was the “media management format for the Victorian government.”

Other commenters shared their opinions and said it was a “terrible look”, “utterly ridiculous” and questioned “why don’t they want people to see here?”

The state government was contacted for comment.
