Goonawarra Primary School pupils are preparing to raise their voices in spectacular fashion.
A group of 18 youngsters will sing with the mass choir at the Victorian State Schools Spectacular next month at Hisense Arena.
They will be performing a set of seven choreographed songs alongside 1300 choristers.
Supervising teacher Sonja Pocek said the children have been rehearsing once a week since April to get pitch perfect.
“They have put in many, many hours of private rehearsal and we have also attended four full days, two of those at Melbourne town hall with a mass choir,” she said.
“The State School Spectacular helps to
create a school culture where we foster a
love of the arts.
“Children are given an opportunity to develop listening, musical, choral skills as well as persistence. This experience boosts motivation, builds confidence and self esteem, as well as providing the amazing experience of performing in front of thousands of people.”
This year’s production,
With the Beat, will explore belonging and identity. Hisense Arena will be transformed into a mystical Venetian masquerade ball and steam punk fairground for the spectacular.
For the first time the state Pasifika Choir will perform, taking inspiration from the Disney animated movie Moana.
