Cash boost in the bag

Youth mentoring program Kidzflip has received a cash boost thanks to a Woodend community initiative.

Kidzflip, run by local police officer Jason Azzopardi, was awarded a $500 grant raised through the sale of Boomerang Bags at the Woodend Farmers Market.

The Woodend bags team, which sews the bags, launched its community grants program online earlier this year asking residents to nominate and vote for a worthy local cause.

Mr Azzopardi said that KidzFlip supports young people to become global citizens by building skills through community engagement.

“This is such great news for the youth of the Macedon Ranges,” he said. “This money will go directly towards our mentoring program. We are very grateful … to all the young people who got behind us and voted like crazy to help us get over the line.”

Jenny Adams, of Woodend, nominated Kidzflip after she read about the work they do to support youth.

“Kidzflip does such great work with
the young people of the Macedon Ranges –
I thought they deserved a boost,” she said.

More than 1200 people from across the Macedon Ranges voted to choose the winner.

Woodend Community Bags meet every Thursday from 9am to 2pm at Woodend Neighbourhood House.
