Land has been secured for a new primary school in the south of Gisborne.
A site near Willowbank Road in Gisborne had been purchased for the school, which will also include an on-site kindergarten.
Consultation for the naming of the new school is now open and the community is being invited to chose a name that reflects the school’s identity, inspires local pride and makes the school easily locatable.
School names being considered are Bunjil Primary School, Garrong Primary School and Willowbank Primary School.
The on-site, two-room 66 place kindergarten will have administrative facilities and outdoor play spaces and is due to open in 2022 along with the primary school.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas, Education Minister James Merlino and Early Childhood Minister Ingrid Stitt announced the location of the school last week.
Ms Thomas said the primary school, once completed, will cater for 475 students.
“This new school, alongside a new kindergarten, delivers great facilities for our kids and gives every child the opportunity to succeed,” she said.
“We also invite the community to work with us to find a new name for the new school and urge every Gisborne resident to head to the website and let us know what they think.”
Mr Merlino said every Victorian primary school opening in 2021 and 2022 will have a kindergarten on-site or next door.
“Securing land for a new primary school in Gisborne delivers on our promise to build 100 new schools over the next seven years and to make drop offs for families a little easier by also having a kindergarten on site,” he said.
The consultation period runs until Friday, November 13.
