Macedon Ranges council is seeking roving street performers and chalk artists to submit expressions of interests to create a festive vibe about the region.

To bring some cheer and joy in the lead-up to the Christmas season, experienced chalk artists will work with local businesses to bring to life colourful and inspirational messages and images on shop windows and pavements.

Roving performers will be encouraged to create engaging experiences for locals and to respond creatively to living in the Macedon Ranges and celebrate the festive season locally.

The council’s planning and environment director Angela Hughes said the project aimed to create colour, movement and a festive vibe in all towns across the sire.

She said it was an opportunity for artists to demonstrate how creative initiatives can activate businesses, support jobs and stimulate tourism during COVID-19 recovery.

“We are looking for artists who can engage the community in unique and inspiring creative experiences,” she said.

The initiative’s aim is to provide shoppers in the Macedon Ranges Christmas cheer as they encounter a range of creative installations, activities and performers. It will also support the Go Local First campaign, which encourages local shopping and supporting small businesses.

Expressions of interest close Sunday, November 8.
