The sale of the Romsey and District Fire Brigade’s group headquarters has been put on hold by the state government.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas last week announced the sale process – which had already begun – would not continue unless a solution to the group’s concerns was found.
Ms Thomas said she would advocate on behalf of the local CFA group.
“I’m very concerned about moves to relocate the Romsey group headquarters without proper consultation about where the group will go,” she said.
“The Romsey group of fire brigades has provided an excellent service to the Romsey community and the broader district.
“It’s unacceptable that consideration of the group’s future is taking place without proper communication with volunteers on the ground.”
Ms Thomas’ announcement comes after Star Weekly reported the group was calling for help to stop the sale, which was being undertaken by the CFA.
Group officer Ralph Hermann had said the group and the community groups who used the headquarters would be left homeless by the sale, and that the headquarters’ extension had been facilitated by funding from the council’s Ash Wednesday Fund.
Ms Thomas said she looked forward to sitting down with the Romsey group and the CFA to discuss the issues.
