Residents can now find out more about plans – and add to them – for the makeover of Romsey’s town centre.
A Romsey Streetscape Project Concept plan was presented to a community meeting hosted by the town tourism association last week.
Romsey Region Business and Tourism Association president Jenny Stillman says the group wants feedback and fresh ideas for the plan, which includes works that started at the end of last year.
The project was launched to co-ordinate the rejuvenation of the town centre and boost tourism in the Romsey area.
“Plantings have commenced with some lovely crepe myrtles planted as part of the Main Street trees and gardens working group initiative,” Ms Stillman said. “The lighting and roads working group is continuing to work on feature street lamp design … and the Five Mile Creek working group is involved in concept plan development for this precinct.
“In developing the concept, various issues have been raised, including lighting and roads, and big-ticket items like heritage buildings,” she said.
“Increasing local amenities and increasing attractiveness to people living in Romsey and to visitors is the main aim.”
Ms Stillman said the planning process had been underwritten by a strong working relationship with Macedon Ranges council.
“The council has been very helpful and collaborative with us on this project,” she said.
The council has set aside $150,000 in its budget and will support the group’s application to Regional Development Victoria for a grant for the Romsey project.
“With the council’s contribution and a possible Regional Development Victoria grant, we hope to be able to progress this project significantly this year,” Ms Stillman told Star Weekly.
The Romsey streetscape plan will be on display outside Romsey IGA and at the Romsey Community Hub from this Saturday (July 30).
