Photography is a bloomin’ good hobby

A year ago, Victoria Butera didn’t know much about photography.

But after just 12 months being behind the lens, the 13-year-old is making a name for herself.

Victoria, who is in year 7, first dabbled in photography after last year’s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

She saw a display for Focus Force Kids with Cameras – a photography club for young people – and decided to give it a go.

“I just liked how you can explore creativity through photography,” she said.

While many budding photographers use high-quality cameras to take their snaps, Victoria often uses an iPhone.

Since taking on photography, Victoria has been an official photographer of a kid’s fashion show, the Royal Melbourne Show and a McHappy Day event.

She’s met television presenters Peter Hitchener and Nicky Buckley, and other Aussie celebrities.

She has been named as the winner of the Fluer Award, a Focus Force Kids with Cameras award for the overall best close-up of a flower.

Her photo will be on exhibition at this year’s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, which is on from March 29 until April 2.

Victoria, who attends Mount St Joseph Girls’ College in Altona, hopes to become a school teacher, but plans to keep at photography as a hobby.
