Park play here to stay

Children are getting into the swing of things at a new playground in Riddells Creek.

The final piece of the Riddells Creek Lions Park playground has been installed.

Park co-ordinator Narelle McGellin said the Gisborne Bendigo Bank provided $15,000 to the Riddells Creek Lions Club to buy a fort for the park.

“It’s an all-age piece of equipment … that should complement the other pieces quite nicely,” she said.

“The fort itself is a bit more of an adventure course where the kids can follow a little course around and finish off with a slide.

“We’re quite fortunate at the park that we’ve got a few all-inclusive pieces of equipment like the basket swing. The carousel is quite popular for people that have a disability – they can wheel onto the carousel as well.”

Ms McGellin said the completion of the park had been a long time coming for Lions Club members.

“The group started this back in 2011 so it’s been going over several years,” she said.

“The park now has been really revitalised and people are actually there quite a lot, whereas before there was nothing there. It’s definitely been well received.

“We’re so thankful for our major sponsors like the Bendigo Bank who saw a need as well.

“It is because of them that our town has benefited greatly with funds to support our community facilities and our children’s sporting and recreational fun into the future.”
