A new “state-of-the-art” sports pavilion is coming to Diggers Rest.
Sunbury MP Josh Bull announced earlier this month that the state government has committed $2.5 million towards building a new facility at the Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve that includes a two-storey sports pavilion.
The funding, as part of the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, will also help Melton council replace three “old and outdated” buildings at the site, create female-friendly change rooms, provide extra facilities for women and girls’ sport and a space for community events.
The funding boost is expected to fast track the development of the project’s masterplan.
Sunbury MP Josh Bull said the funding was great news for Diggers Rest.
“The new pavilion will be a great place for families and the wider community to get into sport,” he said.
“As our community grows, we are investing to make sure we have the top quality facilities our community deserves.”
Local Government Minister Shaun Leane said since the Growing Suburbs Fund’s establishment in 2015, $275 million has been made available for 221 community projects.
“The new Diggers Rest pavilion is a really worthwhile project and I am pleased the Growing Suburbs Fund has been able to support it,” he said.
“Sport facilities are important centres for growing communities.
“The Growing Suburbs Fund has built a legacy of investment in our fastest-growing communities – creating jobs and delivering the facilities communities need to thrive.
“This is going to be more crucial than ever as we recover from the impact of coronavirus.”
