More than 20 schools across the Macedon electorate have received a boost

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas announced earlier this month that 24 Macedon schools will share in more than $9 million as part of the state government’s 2020-21 Bushfire Preparedness (Vegetation) Program.

The funding will allow the schools to clear vegetation and undertake other essential maintenance works ahead of the upcoming bushfire season.

Bolinda Primary School, Mount Macedon Primary School, Gisborne Secondary College and Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist Schools are among the 24 schools to receive funding.

Works with contractors will be carried out under COVID-19 advice guidelines to ensure the health and safety of staff and students.

If works cannot start immediately due to stage four restrictions, offsite planning of these works and any that are essential for school safety will continue.

Ms Thomas said the 24 Macedon schools were among 346 Victorian schools to share in the $9 million program.

“We are ensuring that schools across our community are prepared for the upcoming bushfire season so that students can learn in the safest possible environment,” she said.

“We know that every summer comes with a high risk of bushfires for our region, which is why we are investing in preparedness and maintenance for schools.”
