Mt Macedon Anzac Dawn Service 2018

Thousands of people are expected to convene at Mount Macedon Memorial Cross at daybreak on Wednesday, April 25 for the Mt Macedon Anzac Dawn Service.

Run entirely by local volunteers, the service is one of the largest dawn services of remembrance held in Victoria to recognise servicemen and women.

Service committee chairman Bruce Mildenhall said the committee had been working hard to ensure the 2018 service would continue its tradition of commemorating significant events in Australia’s history of service.

“The focus of this year’s service will be on the centenary of the famous Battle of Villers Bretonneux, fought on Anzac Day 1918, and the enduring links forged between that French community and the Australians,” Mr Mildenhall said.

The committee encourages as many people as possible to attend the service, which will begin at 5.45am on Anzac Day.

About 3000 people have attended the service in recent years so the committee advises people to aim to arrive by 5.15am.

Private vehicles will be unable to drive to Mount Macedon Memorial Cross for safety reasons.

Free buses will operate from around the shire and Sunbury to the memorial service.

Bookings are required for the buses which will leave from Gisborne train station, Woodend train station, Romsey Community Hub, Lancefield Mechanics Hall, Riddells Creek Primary School and Sunbury train station.

Visit organscoaches.com.au to book a place.

A shuttle bus will take people from Tony Clarke Recreation Reserve in Macedon to the service from 4.15am through to 5.20am.
