A new Optus mobile tower has been switched on in Kyneton.
Located on Kyneton-Heathcote Road, the tower will provide coverage to northern parts of Kyneton.
More than 190 homes will be able to connect to “reliable” mobile reception.
An additional 30 square kilometres of area surrounding the site will receive “enhanced” mobile coverage, including more than seven kilometres along Kyneton-Heathcote Road.
Optus regulatory and public affairs vice president Andrew Sheridan said providing “much-needed” mobile coverage for regional communities was vital.
“It not only means greater safety for those living, working and driving through this area by unlocking access to communication, but also helps to facilitate contact with family and friends,” he said.
“We were thrilled … to deliver this site which will enable valuable opportunities for the local community, allowing Kyneton to remain competitive with access to the same resources as the rest
of Australia.”
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said the tower would help eliminate blackspots in and around Kyneton.
“We’ve already delivered more than 150 new mobile towers and we’re getting on with removing even more blackspots, giving local communities the opportunity to thrive and enjoy where they live,” she said.
