Community will be at the heart of the tenure of Macedon Ranges’ new mayor.

Cr Janet Pearce was voted in as the new mayor during a special council meeting last Wednesday night.

“I’m very excited, very happy and very pleased and thankful to the councillors for supporting me,” Cr Pearce said.

“I’m looking forward to the year and working with everyone.

“We’re all so diverse in our skills and we all represent different ages.”

Cr Pearce expressed a particular interest in the health area.

“I have a lot of projects that I’m interested in,” she said.

“I’m interested in supporting the volunteers and volunteer groups – that’s in the health and wellbeing and the mental health area.

“I would like to look into the programs of how we can support volunteers more in the community.

“Personally I like looking at the community aspect … they’re the heart of it all.

“I would really like to have some more going out to the community.”

Cr Pearce said she is looking forward to working with her fellow colleagues in her new role.

“I think that the team of councillors have a lot of ideas,” she said.

“So let’s get together and formalise them.”

Cr Mandi Mees was elected as Macedon Ranges’ deputy mayor.
