Macedon Ranges council is kicking goals compared to similar shires around Victoria.
Only 2.65 per cent of council decisions in 2015-16 were made at meetings closed to the public, the latest comparisons on the Know Your Council website reveals.
This was significantly lower than for others in its category, which averaged 12.71 per cent, while statewide, the council average was 11.57 per cent.
Satisfaction with Macedon Ranges’ community consultation and engagement was on par with others.
The Know Your Council website launched last year and provides a snapshot of how councils work and the range of services provided.
Council chief executive Peter Johnston said Macedon Ranges ranked highly in such areas as libraries, aquatic centres, animal management, governance, home and community care, maternal and child health, roads and financial performance.
“Patronage levels indicate our residents highly value our facilities,” Mr Johnston said.
The average residential rate per property was $1911.80, similar to those of other large rural councils with extensive road networks, such as Surf Coast ($2104.52) and Mitchell ($1805.45).
However, average fees for services per head of population were much lower than the average for other Victorian councils.
