The Romsey and Lancefield neighbourhood houses have joined forces to feed it forward.
The Feed It Forward lunch is an initiative for locals to donate food produce that goes towards a monthly community lunch.
Romsey house co-ordinator Michelle Balthazar said the Romsey and Lancefield houses wanted to create an event to focus on food security.
“It came about through a series of community consultations where we asked the community what they wanted in terms of dealing with the issues of food security,” she said.
“That then turned into brainstorming and the group came up with the concept of the feed it forward generosity food movement.
“Each month, there is a harvest week where the community can be a part of donating any fresh produce they can,” she said.
Ms Balthazar said the lunch is now in its six month, and can attract up to 70 people.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of volunteers,” she said. “Anyone can contribute in so many ways to setting up, to washing up, to cooking and preparing the meals.”
Ms Balthazar said they also prepared an additional 70 meals for food banks in Kyneton.
The next lunch will be held at Romsey Neighbourhood House.
