Little aths is back

Little Athletics is back on track in Kyneton.

The Kyneton Little Athletics Club is set to return for its 2020-21 season with a modified COVID-Safe program, starting on Saturday from 9am.

Club president Ashley Fraser said he was optimistic about the upcoming season.

“As a sport, we are in a very unique position,” he said.

“As we finished our domestic competition, Victoria was put into lockdown and as our new season starts, we are slowly coming out of the second wave of restrictions so we are hoping the pandemic will not have too much of an impact on us.”

The 2020-21 season runs until the end of March. Mr Fraser is hoping there will be an increased interest in sport among budding athletes, after many months of lockdown.

“Last year we had 131 members ranging from ages 5 to 16,” Mr Fraser said.

“This year we are introducing a senior squad for teenagers where they will be able to choose which activities they concentrate on, so we are hoping it will appeal to more people including those wanting to stay fit in their off-season if they usually do other winter sports such as football or netball.”

Track and field events including sprint and middle distance running, hurdles, jumps, shot put, discus and javelin will be offered every Saturday morning at the Kyneton Showgrounds.

Coaching can be provided to children and parents and there is also an opportunity to enter regional competitions.
