In the spirit of change

Sunbury artist Helen Cannon drew inspiration from the birds and the bees, the flowers and the trees in her backyard for Seasons, her latest exhibition.

Cannon said she wanted those experiencing her work at The Gallery in Mt Macdeon to think about life.

“It’s basically homage to the seasons that we go through annually and it’s asking people to think about the seasons in their own life,” she said. “I’ve used a lot of images of feathers, eggs and nests … using that as a metaphor to symbolise the good and bad times in life.

“There’s sort of a spiritual element … that’s how it’s been in my life.

“There’s always eventually a ‘spring’ season of our lives when everything is renewed.”

Seasons, the fourth exhibition by Cannon, follows a series of three exhibitions called Sacred Ground one, two and three.

“I’ve been creating art most of my life,” she said. “I was a nurse and then I injured my back … the art took off from there.

“I love birds and nests, I love watching them in my garden and that’s often where my inspiration comes from.”

Seasons will be at The Gallery in Mt Macedon between September 4 and 30.
