More than 35,000 kilograms of food has been donated to Sunbury-based support agency CareWorks as part of a partnership between a major supermarket and fresh food rescue group SecondBite.
Over the past three years, Coles Sunbury and SecondBite have teamed up to cut waste in the store, passing on enough fruit, vegetables and bread for about 70,000 meals.
CareWorks manager Michael Austin said the arrangement was making a big difference to the lives of the service’s growing numbers of clients.
‘‘We know the produce is much appreciated by the members of the community who we assist, and we are very thankful to Coles and SecondBite for their support,’’ he said.
