Two Macedon Ranges Landcare groups have received funding from the state government to help protect their community.
Malmsbury District Landcare Group received $14,000 to help restore Malmsbury’s biodiversity with a community approach involving restoration works, environmental monitoring and community engagement at Malmsbury Common.
Woodend Landcare received $18,424 towards restoring Five Mile Creek and protecting black gums at Flint Hill.
The funding is part of the government’s Landcare grants program, which aims to improve biodiversity.
More than 360 groups received funding in the program’s latest round, sharing in $2 million.
The funds are used to support works and community projects including weed control, pest animal control, protection of habitat, revegetation, and community education.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said Landcare volunteers helped protect Victoria’s environment.
“We’re supporting our local volunteers with these grants so they can continue caring for our natural environment,” she said.
“These grants will allow our volunteers to keep making a big difference at a grassroots level.”
