Cash boost for regional road projects

Macedon Ranges motorists can look forward to safer roads.

Macedon Ranges council has secured close to $1.1 million in the second round of funding for road upgrades as part of the state government’s Fixing Country Roads Program.

Widening and strengthening upgrades have been planned for Lauriston and Lauriston Reservoir roads, Kyneton.

Projects rolling out across the region as part of the program include the re-construction of sections of Kyneton-Metcalfe Road and Romsey Road, surface improvements on Aitken and Robertson streets in Gisborne, Main Street in Romsey and Station Street, Clarkefield.

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said she was delighted Macedon Ranges roads were receiving much-needed upgrades.

“These are all great projects for our community and it’s essentially good news for commuters who catch the train at Clarkefield station every day,” she said.

Roads Minister Jaala Pulford said it was crucial to provide motorists with a safer journey on country roads.

“This program is all about ensuring our smaller communities have high quality roads,” Ms Pulford said.

Round one projects are on track for completion midyear, while round two projects will be delivered by June, 2020.
