Brendan embarks on tour to remember

Brendan Dennis

The Tour de Cure was a ride to remember for Brendan Dennis.

The Sunbury resident says he thought about his late aunt, who died from cancer, as well as all cancer survivors, including his mother and mother-in-law, as he made the three-day journey across Victoria last week.

Tour de Cure and Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation are behind a ground-breaking kids’ immuno-oncology research program at Peter Mac, and the 50 riders who participated in this year’s ride aimed to raise about $550,000 to make the program a reality.

Mr Dennis completed the 375 kilometre trek across Victoria.

“I’ve been involved with the Tour de Cure since 2010 as a support person, but this was the first time I’ve done the ride myself.”

He said while riding for three days was physically and mentally tough, cancer patients suffer on a daily basis.

“There are more people dying in country Victoria from cancer because they just don’t have access to the proper screening and treatment,” he said.

Mr Dennis set a personal goal of raising $4500.
