Woodend Art Group (WAG) is bouncing back from a limited 2020, with a new exhibit during the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

With history dating back to 1978, the WAG Winter Art Show will feature a range of exhibits from the group’s professional members at the studio in the historic Woodend Railway Station Complex.

Entry is a gold coin donation.

WAG member Don Jones, who started teaching at WAG in 1982, said the group has had to battle adversity before.

“WAG has survived many difficulties including the financial crisis and bushfires,” he said.

“In fact, the worst of these for the community was the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983.

“I was teaching at Woodend that year and was a member of WAG at the time.”

WAG member Margaret Morgan said the group won’t be offering tea and coffee at the art show as it had in previous years because of COVID-19 restrictions, but she still encouraged the community to support local art.

“Come along and enjoy the work of our many professional members and keep warm by the roaring fire,” she said.

As well as running exhibits, WAG provides classes in art practice from beginners to experienced artists, including after school hours classes for children.

The Winter Art Show will run from 10am to 4pm daily between Saturday, June 12 and Monday, June 14.
