IN FOCUS: Road-tested for excellent service

Since husband-and-wife team Adrian and Andrea Matthews established The Garage Woodend three years ago, the business has gained a fine reputation for diagnostic and repair excellence and a workshop floor “so clean you could eat off it”.

“It is neat,” Andrea says, “and that’s important to us. We want people to feel that we are just as fussy with our workshop as we are with their cars. We believe it’s an accurate reflection of our attention to detail and quality service.”

The largest independent European vehicle specialist in the Macedon Ranges, The Garage is also attracting clients from outside the region.

“European vehicles tend to be very technology-driven, so diagnostic skills are ultra-important,” Adrian says. “Our workshop team offers these skills in spades – it’s not every mechanic who really understands and has knowledge of the complexity involved.

“We know that repairs can be expensive, too, so we always make sure we find the best parts at the right price so our customers aren’t paying more than they need to. It’s one of the basics of our business – fairness with prices and a willingness to make that happen.

“We want our customers to go away confident that they have been given a fair assessment of their vehicle and haven’t been oversold work that isn’t required.”

“And we provide up-front service quotes on request.

“All vehicle services include a full safety check … any issues found are reported back to the customers with a recommendation on whether we need to fix the issue there and then, or monitor for repair at next service.”

Andrea worked in Holden’s head office in the CBD before The Garage opened.

“I’m also a car journalist, so can now answer almost any question my customers throw at me,” she says with a laugh.

She happily challenges customers to ask the “curly” questions – and to come in, meet the crew … and check out that famously clean workshop.
