My Place: Robert Renton

Robert Renton was named Macedon Ranges Citizen of the Year on Australia Day for his work as a pension and welfare officer. The Kyneton resident chats with Jessica Micallef about his involvement with the Kyneton RSL.

How long have you lived in the Sunbury and Macedon Ranges?

I have lived in Kyneton for 35 years.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about seeing veterans and widows and their dependants get the proper entitlements from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs for their war-caused disabilities, and giving widows their income pensions when their spouse dies.

Tell me about your involvement with the Kyneton RSL.

I assist in claims for funeral allowance and conducting RSL funeral rituals, I conduct Anzac services, Remembrance Day services for Kyneton, Malmsbury, and Taradale, and also Australia Day barbecue and flag-raising ceremonies.

How did it feel to know you had won the Macedon Ranges Citizen of the Year?

It was hard to believe the award as I do not seek accolades, but I am extremely humbled to receive it and am hopefully worthy of the nomination.

What is the best thing about the Sunbury/Macedon Ranges?

Best thing about Macedon Ranges is the country feeling and friendly people and great mates. I have friends in Sunbury who are veterans and are great mates.
