Gisborne kids warm up for production of Legally Blonde

Gisborne Secondary College’s new Barcham Theatre will be awash with pink when a cast and crew of more than 70 students present a production of Legally Blonde, July 28-31.

Maddiee Bell and Gabrielle Sparnon (pictured) will be among those taking centre stage for four shows, including a Sunday matinee.

Director Natasha Davey says many of the students taking part are seasoned performers, while others are relishing the chance to contribute to a production for the first time.

She says, while it’s a comedy, Legally Blonde carries an important message, especially for teens.

“It’s all to do with stereotypes and finding out you can be different to what people expect you to be,” she says.

Tickets: $25; $19 concession.
