Woodend recorded its first win of the Central Highlands Bowls division 1 season on Saturday.

Playing the higher-ranked Kyneton at Woodend, the two teams split the four rinks at two apiece.

Chloe Stewart, coming off a quarter-final appearance at the Victorian Open during the week, played with Mark Smoljo to win their rinks for Kyneton, while Troy Williams and Colin Scott did likewise for Woodend.

It was the massive 37-20 rink win by Scott that proved to be the winning difference for Woodend, which won the encounter, 102 (14)- 89 (4) to go to a 1-1-3 record to start the season.

Woodend remains in seventh spot on the ladder, three points behind Romsey.

Gisborne kept its winning start to the season by smashing Romsey.

Gisborne took all points on offer, winning 141 (18) – 69 (0), and is on top of the ladder, 15 points clear of Lancefield.

Gisborne skips Darren Fletcher, Sam Boslem and John Bell sit in the top three positions on the skip ladder, with Fletcher and Boslem remaining undefeated after five rounds.

Despite winning only one rink, Kyneton Golf Gold defeated Bacchus Marsh 100 (14) – 90 (4).

The two sides split two rinks, with Anthony Mathison’s rink win of 38-19 propelling his side to the triumph.

Lancefield had an easy win over Kyneton Golf Blue, 113 (17) – 77 (1), with Jeff Holmes’ rink win of 34-12 the biggest of division 1.

Diggers Rest, Kyneton, Macedon and Bacchus Marsh were the winners in division 2.
