Woman charged over Sunbury charity tin theft

A 34-year-old Coburg North woman has been arrested in relation to the alleged theft of a charity tin from the Royal Hotel in Sunbury last week.

The woman has been charged with theft and bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 November.

Sunbury police were investigating after CCTV footage showed a woman approach the cashier’s office at the Evans Street venue on Wednesday before 12.30pm.

The gaming attendant was not in the office and the woman can be seen on CCTV moving the large pink pig money box across the counter, closer to the window.

The footage showed the throw a black jacket over the money box, lifted it from the counter and walked from the hotel.

The Very Special Kids charity tin is used to collect donations for terminally ill children and their families.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or they can file a confidential report at www.crimestoppers.com.au
