Gisborne steam rally all full of puff

By Angela Valente

It’s full steam ahead for the Gisborne Vintage Machinery Society’s annual rally and tractor pull this Sunday.

Society vice-president Tim Reid says the steam park grounds in New Gisborne will come alive to the smells and sounds of steam engines from yesteryear, giving children, in particular, a glimpse at life before there were cars and computers.

“It’s becoming a must-do for lovers of vintage machinery, and it places the Macedon Ranges as a destination across the rally weekend,” he said. “Many exhibitors stay across the entire weekend and help contribute to the local economy, as do visitors.

The event will also feature vintage cars, tractors and machinery, market stalls, machinery and parts for sale, mini-train rides and an animal farm nursery.

The rally is at the Gisborne Steam Park, Webb Crescent, New Gisborne, from 9.30am-3pm. Cost is $10 for adults, $8 for concession, with children free. More details:
