After five rounds in the Gisborne and District Cricket Association McIntyre Cup, Gisborne and Romsey remain the teams to beat.
On the weekend, the Dragons defeated third-placed Woodend at Gardiner Reserve.
The Dragons were sent into the field and it seemed to be the right call as Woodend reached 44 without a wicket taken.
However, the Dragons took the next three wickets without another run added, the wickets kept coming, with Woodend being five down for just 56.
Jamie Pettigrew and Finn Slechten were then able to put on a handy eight wicket stand of 54 to help Woodend reach 142.
Like Woodend, the Dragons got away to a nice start, however, lost then lost five wickets for 22 runs, putting them in a spot of bother at 5-60.
Spencer Jones was able to help steady his club’s innings with a nice cameo of 28, before Jay King and Jarrod Catania chased down the final 48 runs needed to win by four wickets.
Romsey came up against the winless Diggers Rest Bulla for its round five clash.
The Redbacks were clinical in their approach, winning the toss and batting and putting 200 on the board.
Matthew Milne top scored for the Redbacks with 54, before he was run out by the Burras’ coach Darren Quarrell.
The Burras really struggled with the bat when it was their turn, with Jake Reid top scoring with just 14 runs.
Four of the Burras batsmen didn’t register a run as they fell for 47 from just 20 overs.
Jamie Taylor was the Redbacks’ best with the ball, taking five for 12 from his five overs.
