Community feeds it forward

The Lancefield Neighbourhood House is bringing together the community to feed it forward.

The house hosted their first Feed it Forward lunch last week in almost a year.

House co-ordinator Viven Philpotts said the event was an opportunity for locals to donate food produce to go towards the monthly community lunch.

“The menu is based around seasonal produce,” she said.

“We do a call out for ingredients and majority of the food is donated. The menu last week was a zucchini and mushroom lasagne with homemade pasta sheets, and we did an apple crumble. It was really delicious.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the lunch was limited to 40 people. But in a normal year, up to 100 people attend the lunch.

“The lunch is not just about the people, it’s about bringing the community together,” she said.

“Everyone is welcome, it’s not just for people in need, it’s for everybody.”

Ms Philpotts said any leftover food from the lunch is donated back into the community.

“Excess meals go into our community support program which we started at the beginning of COVID and we have donated abut 2500 meals in 10 months,” she said.

“We are also always looking for more volunteers to help with growing food, preparation and cooking, helping set up the day. There are jobs for everybody.”
