Young people were recognised for their achievements in an online event at the 2020 Macedon Ranges Youth Awards.
The annual event recognises and celebrates the extraordinary and diverse achievements of young people aged 12-25 who go to school, work or live in the Macedon Ranges.
The award winners were presented with their awards at the Kyneton Botanic Gardens.
Macedon Ranges mayor Jennifer Anderson said the event acknowledged the many ways young people participated in and contributed to the community.
Michael Smith won the Will Power Award for 16 years of recovery following an accident that left him with a brain injury and crippling physical injuries down one side of his body.
Daniel Smyth and Isaac Fletcher were awarded the Nicely Played Award. Daniel was recognised for his dedication to the 1st Riddells Creek Scout Group, while Isaac was recognised for his career in mountain biking.
The Good Deeds Award was presented to Shyla McPhail, who is heavily involved in different organisations including Cancer Council, Royal Children’s Hospital and the Starlight Foundation.
Kirk Close won the Skilling It Award for creating his business – Ginger Ninjas – at the age of 10, to raise money for orangutans.
Kyle Hayes’ passion for mental health and the creation of his own personal development program ManEnough, earned him the Well Aware Award.
Monet Lewis and Emily Medbury were both presented with the Pure Imagination Award, for their work in the film and arts industries.
“Each nominee deserves to be recognised. They are creating positive change in our local communities and beyond,” Cr Anderson said.
