Thinking outside the box

Sweet treats and baked goods are still on the menu at Sunbury’s Cafe Circe.

Owner Natalia Battaglia has been busy creating themed food boxes to help locals celebrate special events in lockdown.

“A lot of people did miss out on celebrating birthdays with friends and family, so we decided to make antipasto boxes and breakfast boxes for families to enjoy,” she said.

“We also do afternoon tea boxes and little fun things for kids.

“We started with just a few boxes and now we have about 12 or 14 in our list so it has grown quite a lot.”

Ms Battaglia is also creating food boxes to coincide with public events that cannot be celebrated as usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have a game day box for the grand final and we also have a Halloween-themed box because a lot of the kids are asking about Halloween and what can and cannot be done.

“We are also going to release a Melbourne Cup box with canapes and cheeses.”

Ms Battaglia said the food boxes have been a lifeline that has carried her business through Melbourne’s tough lockdown but she was looking forward to the day she could reopen her doors to her customers.

“We’ve had a lot of support during the closure, but it isn’t the same as having people sit it.”

To order a food box, visit Cafe Circe’s Facebook or Instagram page.
