Pupils who dare to be excellent

Kimberley Nicholls, acting principal of Romsey Primary School, is incredibly proud of her school’s inclusive and empowering learning community of 276 children, utilising 12 classrooms.

“Our school community fosters confident, creative, caring, curious and collaborative learners who ‘dare to be excellent’.

“Our core values of respect, resilience and integrity underpin all aspects of our learning day,” says Mrs Nicholls.

“We have a staff body that’s committed to working alongside every child to support them to dare to be excellent in everything they do, and we pride ourselves on educating the whole child.”

The modern, flexible school buildings nestle in beautiful grounds of about 11.5 hectares which, says Mrs Nicholls, provides all who learn and teach at the school a sense of pride and inspiration.

“Our recently renovated and updated playground space allows students to explore and engage with nature while learning in a fun and inclusive space.

“We are also undertaking a building project to create a state-of-the-art STEAM (STEM plus Arts) area, as well as Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden and a performance space.

“Students use up-to-date technology, with a ratio of 1:1 for Netbooks in years 3-6, and 1:2 in prep-year 2. For years 3-6, we’ve introduced a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.

Going strong for 150 years, the school offers a deep sense of history, with a feeling of belonging and familiarity quickly developed.

“The parents, teachers and children have a strong community spirit and are committed to ensuring the school remains a happy and safe place for learning and growing.

“Regular informal contact and communication with teachers is encouraged, and every effort is made to develop a supportive relationship between home and school.”

As well, the school council and staff are committed to ensuring all programs are in line with currently held beliefs about teaching and learning.

“Our teachers undertake ongoing professional development as part of their everyday work life. Co-operative planning and team teaching is adopted throughout the school, resulting in the best possible learning environment for every child.”

Mrs Nicholls concludes by saying, “Students who come to Romsey Primary School receive a well-balanced and varied curriculum which focuses on the whole child and provides them with a solid foundation for their future.”
