Sunbury Downs College is a year 7 to 12 co-educational secondary college.

Principal Warwick Beynon says as a growing college with about 700 students, it offers the very best in teaching and learning.

Highly capable and professional teachers and education support staff work alongside students to help them reach their potential.

“Our learning environment embraces and supports the needs of the student as a whole individual, is structured and caring, underpinned by our college values of Respect, Resilience, Ambition and Community,” Mr Beynon says. “We have consistently achieved outstanding VCE results at or above the state mean.”

Sunbury Downs College was the recipient of The Age VCE Excellence in Education Award for the Northern Region in 2018.

“We are known for setting the benchmark in outstanding teaching and learning, with excellent results for students in their final years of schooling,” Mr Beynon proudly states.

The college offers a rich educational program in an environment with strong student management, high expectations and high quality educational resources and facilities.

It has recently completed two major capital works building programs, which have upgraded and modernised science, physical education and student hub areas.

The brand new state-of-the-art Dulap Wilim Hub (shared community facility) encompasses two commercial teaching kitchens for use by Sunbury Downs College students.

The curriculum program has a strong emphasis on the core subjects: English, mathematics, science and humanities; complemented by programs in the arts/technology, performing arts, physical education/health and languages (Italian).

A wide range of VCE subjects are also offered, including VET studies and a structured rigorous VCAL program.

Sunbury Downs College is the only secondary school in the area that offers an Accelerated Curriculum & Enrichment (ACE) program for academically able students; extending students through a challenging curriculum including early commencement of VCE. The ACE program is a select entry course with enrolment commencing in year 7 from the feeder primary schools.

It offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and an inter-school sporting program. There are year level and specialised camps and excursions, including an overseas Italian Study Tour. There is a well-established student leadership program and a house system with whole school carnivals for athletics and swimming.

There is an instrumental music tuition program and the college presents a highly-acclaimed musical production, enabling students to excel in the performing arts in an environment that fosters participation, responsibility and teamwork outside the classroom.

“We have outstanding modern facilities that support students to learn and be educationally challenged,” Mr Beynon says.

“We provide specialised areas to support the learning of the sciences, technology, arts and sports.

“There is a modern education resource centre, well-equipped technology wing and also an on-site Art – Design – Technology exhibition space, enabling the display of high quality student work.

“Our feeder schools, local businesses and community agencies are important stakeholders in our college community. We acknowledge that it is the links with the outside world that extends the offerings for our students and community.

“I welcome all members of our local community to take the time to have a ‘fresh look’ at our great school and encourage you to view our virtual tour on our website to see first-hand the college at work.

“I recommend that you contact the school to obtain further information and I look forward to you joining the Sunbury Downs College community.”
