Skaters and BMX riders can look forward to a new pavilion at the Sunbury Skate Park.
Construction has started on a viewing deck, social room, changerooms, a kitchen, first aid room, an office and additional storage space.
The pavilion is expected to be completed in early 2020.
Sports and Recreation Victoria contributed $100,000 to the project, to go with Hume council’s $873,000 commitment.
Hume mayor Carly Moore said the pavilion would be a welcome addition to the skate park for both spectators and skaters.
“Spectators will enjoy a whole new level of comfort with the addition of the viewing deck, social rooms and kitchen,” she said.
“The new pavilion will provide a great new facility for local BMX participants.
“The works also complement the recently completed upgrades to the Sunbury Skate Park.
“BMX is one of many emerging sports growing in popularity and council is particularly pleased to deliver new facilities to help support and encourage participation.”
Last month, the council officially reopened the Sunbury Skate Park after four months of upgrades which included a new quarter pipe, mogul, rails, bans and barriers, a wave block and a hubba.
