Daniel finds his voice

Musician Daniel Shaw is Sunbury’s newest voice.

Shaw’s blind audition on the hit TV show The Voice was screened last Sunday night, but the 21-year-old is no stranger to performing – he has been busking in Melbourne since he was eight.

Shaw said he has tried out for many talent shows but was contacted by a talent agency which recommended he audition for season eight of The Voice.

“I’ve never gone on The Voice before – it was a crazy experience,” he said.

Waiting for his own audition, Shaw said he had the opportunity to watch the performer before him, but he decided to look away.

“I just wanted to be away from it all,” he said.

“I was very nervous but I felt secure in myself that I could turn at least one [judges] chair.

“Once the chairs turned, it was crazy.

“It was a huge sigh of relief and it made me push harder – I wanted all four chairs.”

And that’s exactly what he got. All four judges on The Voice turned their chairs to offer Shaw a place on their team.

He chose Australian popstar Delta Goodrem to be his coach throughout the competition.

“Delta’s amazing – I wanted her before I went on the stage,” he said.

“I did my research on all the coaches and I just saw her connection with the piano and how she plays on the piano quite a lot.

“I thought it could be something we could work on together.

“She has brought out the best in me.”
