Dressed for success

Taylors Hill Primary School has put its generosity on show, becoming one of the top fundraisers in the state for the annual Jeans for Genes Day.

The fundraiser, which helps raise money for the Children’s Medical Research Institute by encouraging people to wear jeans to school or work, raised thousands of dollars in 2018. Taylors Hill primary raised $830 to be the ninth highest fundraiser out of all Victorian schools that participated.

Principal Danielle Stella last week said it was a proud day for the school.

“We have done this each year since we opened in 2010, and it’s always been a big part of the year to bring awareness and raise some money along the way,” Ms Stella said.

“This was our biggest year so far, and it’s great to bring awareness and recognition to such an important cause.

“As well as raising money, we make sure that the school community is aware of where the money is going, and educating the students and giving families something to talk about.”

Andrew Kelly said schools such as Taylors Hill primary were crucial to their fundraising efforts.

“We are working with the aim of giving every child the best start to life. It is a privilege to work in partnership with every school … protecting the health of our nation’s greatest treasure: our children,” he said.

“We would not be able to do the important work of research into children’s genetic diseases without the sustained generosity of our partner schools.”
